The panoramic views of the High Atlas Mountains and magnificent landscapes, scenery peppered by small Berber villages typical of the region. We visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Ait Benhaddou. This Kasbah is perhaps the most impressive and well-preserved fortress city in Morocco. Built on a hilltop, Ait Benhaddou inspired many movie makers such as the Gladiator or Lawrence of Arabia were filmed here. The view from the upper heights of the Kasbah is awe-inspiring and worth the required climb through winding, narrow streets.
Our travel continues along what is known as the Road of One Thousand Kasbahs passing the Skoura oasis. Then we continue to visit the Valley of the Roses (Kelaa M’Gouna) the center of Moroccan roses and rose products. Acres of Persian roses are grown and harvested here to create rose water, creams, and soaps prized throughout Morocco and the world.

Then we depart Todra Gorge for Merzouga the doorway into the desert where your guide and camels will be waiting for you to carry you across the sandy dunes of the Moroccan Sahara. Camel trek as the sunset across the desert landscape, for approximately 1 to reach your desert camp for the night.

You will wake up to enjoy the sunrise over the dunes of Erg Chebbi, possibly the best moment of the Merzouga desert.

The distance between Marrakech and Fes is 520 Km via the motorway through Casablanca and Rabat. If you choose to drive via the Middle Atlas Mountains and Beni Mellal , the distance is 570 Km. The drive through the Middle Atlas Mountains is more scenic, but you need to spare a full day to enjoy the itinerary. There is an even longer and more popular way to get to Fes from Marrakech: Through Merzouga and the Moroccan Sahara desert. It is 1030 Km, and it requires a minimum of 3 days.
You mainly need 2 days in Fes Morocco in order to fully explore it. A full-day guided tour of the Medina of Fes will introduce you to discover the hidden gems of the ancient Medina, and an extra day to explore the Souks on your own. Now, with the nearby blue city of Chefchaouen becoming more and more popular, you could add an extra day to do a full day trip of Chefchaouen from Fes ( 200 Km each way )
Fes is considered the Athens of Morocco: It is the oldest Medina in Morocco. It is also the intellectual, cultural, craftsmanship, and culinary capital of Morocco. Its narrow streets and centuries-old Medina is amazing. Fes is heaven for historians, archaeologists, and intellectuals from all over the world. The oldest university in the world ( Al Quaraouiyine) is located in the center of Medina. Fes used to be the capital of various Moroccan dynasties who ruled North Africa, actual Spain, and sub-Saharan Africa all the way to the Niger River and Sudan for centuries.
Fes is as safe as any other city in Morocco. It is even safer than most touristy cities in Europe. Police are now patrolling the Medina and they are visible everywhere. You just need to take the common. precautions like anywhere else in the world: – Avoid empty Medina streets, especially unlit narrow alleyways of Fes at night – Women traveling alone need to dress moderately. The less attractive you dress, the less attention you get. – Do not carry a lot of cash on you. – Be prepared to be annoyed by touts and fake guides every now and then. Just ignore them, and a firm ”NO” would keep them away. – A local licensed guide hired by your riad or tour company would be of great efficiency in the Medina of Fes. Not only by explaining a big deal of history, architecture, religion, etc but also by keeping you safe all the time. – very rare pickpocketing cases were registered recently in Fes. Keep your valuables, passports, and jewelry at your hotel safe. Physical aggression is very rare.
Simo was great and super nice. He took the time to make us feel comfortable. Francesca S2024-09-29Verified To do absolutely Great experience!! Our Guide Mohamed was fantastic, took us to see very interesting places and is very nice and helpful. Travel hours are many long but are rewarded by the desert. Here we saw a crazy sunset and sunrise, crossed the desert with the camel, sandboarded and rode the quad bikes. Very positive experience! Monika P2024-09-27Verified Desert tour Youssef was an excellent, helpful host who even made our birthday special! Highly recommend as a guide & overall experience! sara t2024-09-22Verified Nice experience Beautiful Experience and Guide very helpful. In addition to seeing a beautiful landscape, we also had a lot of fun between sandboarding and quad biking. HII2024-09-22Verified Recommend! Organized trip, worth the cost. Would recommend for anyone looking for a quick getaway outside of the city. Some of the meals are not fully included so make sure you understand so you can bring additional cash for payment. Resort604372279992024-09-22Verified Crazy bang for your buck Hotels were fine. Ben Hatut is pretty underwhelming in my opinion, but that’s not the fault of the tour. The landscapes you pass by are amazing tho and the camp in the desert is also adequate. All in all nothing negative happened during our tour and the driver is also super friendly. It’s crazy what you get for this low price to be honest.
